oh and a great new band that you all should check out if you like 90's Emo/Indie Rock is Cymbals Eat Guitars they sound a lot like a refurbished version of Cap'n Jazz
@ TheNattedogg56 even in the early 2000's emo was still great it started to lose its touch only now a days but there are still plenty of other good bands with emo influences around they just don't exactly follow the same paths or go with the same sound as the latter bands had.
theattica i know man! i just forgot to include them, weren't on my mind at the time, i love all the Kinsella bros bands, most of all Owen. He does amazing things with the acoustic. and to you Epiphone i don't know why you mentioned AFI but i can totally tell they had probably listened to SDRE and gained influence, the singers sound a lot alike at times. All i know is that i have to go to Coachella this year for SDRE's reuniting and see them play live!
@peytonater , you're real close. Only thing you're leaving out is the Kinsella brothers. ie, Cap'n Jazz, American Football, etc. That's a big part of emocore, and happened a little earlier, though also during sdre's era.
yeah Sunny Day is what formed the emo bands of today they started the post-hardcore / emo movement next to Jawbreaker. this is for the 1990's though. earlier than that it had to be bands like Rites of Spring and Fugazi and other punk bands. i like 90's and early 2000's emo best though. anyone else agree?
@cameltoesisify, i like MCR and alot of new stuff, but i also respect this emo genre, same, MCR isn't emo. there alternative, but thats what most people think is the new emo these days, shamme.
@thelivingfire. It is emo SDRE were like part of the Seattle movement of emo I think?
This is proper emo, I hate when people compare decent emo genre to the like of MCRs Black Parade album.
lets get this straight, dave grohl started tho foo fighters as a solo project. He ended up starting a band and got nate mendel on bass and William goldsmith on drums. The original foo fighters lineup was basically sunny day real estate crossed with nirvana coz pat smear was touring guitarist for nirvana and dave was drummer. Although the first foo fighters record was just dave grohl playing all instruments, then organising a touring band.
